About Dr Deb Calleja
I am a seasoned osteopath with over 33 years of experience, having practiced on the Gold Coast since 1994. I earned my Bachelor of Applied Science in Osteopathy from RMIT University in Melbourne in 1992.
Throughout my career, I have pursued extensive postgraduate training both locally and overseas in areas such as chronic pain management, Barral visceral, neuro, and musculoskeletal techniques, as well as functional, BLT, and cranial osteopathy. More recently, I am learning more about neuroendocrine-immune dysregulation and osteopathic treatment approaches for autonomic imbalance.
In 2024, I became a licensed practitioner of the Perrin Technique, an osteopathic approach designed to manage presentations of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Long COVID, and Fibromyalgia. This has deepened my understanding of complex patient presentations and has assisted me further integrating my work within a medical and allied health team that deals with this complex patient cohort. The focus of osteopathy within this team includes treating conditions such as dysautonomia, Long COVID, CFS, and vascular compression syndromes. Managing these complex cases requires me to draw from all osteopathic models, applying a deep understanding of anatomy and
pathophysiology with osteopathic clinical thinking.
In addition to my clinical practice, I served as a clinical educator for five years and continue to teach as a casual lecturer in the Master’s program at Southern Cross University, where I introduce the senior students to cranial, visceral, and other indirect osteopathic approaches. I was also involved in re writing the current curriculum for these subjects.
My passion lies in integrating traditional osteopathic principles with modern advancements, taken from both clinical practice experience and research, to provide comprehensive patient care. I am also dedicated to sharing my knowledge and clinical
experience to support the education and development of both future and existing osteopaths.
